Complete Category C+E Driver Training Course package that includes everything you will need to train to obtain your C+E licence. The course is designed for anyone with a Car licence that is looking to drive a Class 1 Category C+E Articulated Lorry and will teach you through each module what you will need to learn in order to be best prepared for your test.

  • Medical Examination
    • Booked for you locally at a convenient time.
  • Theory revision issued.
    • A login will be issued so you can start to revise your theory tests on our online revision site.
  • Multiple Choice, Hazard Perception and initial CPC theory tests booked.
    • These will be booked at your local theory test centre at a time convenient to you.
    • These can be booked individually or all 3 together.

As of November 2021, the government made it eligible to train and gain your class 1 licence, without having to first gain your category C class 2 licence. This means that you can train from a category B car licence, straight to an articulated lorry.

The Cost of HGV Training

To complete your HGV training, cost starts from £2,209.40, with the ability to change options depending on your requirements. This is depending on if you need to complete your:

  • D2 Provisional entitlement form
  • D4 Medical form and examination
  • Multiple-choice and hazard perception theory training and test
  • Module 2 CPC
  • Module 4 CPC

Your Training Journey

Completing Your D4 Medical Form/Examination

Your D4 Medical form must be completed by a registered doctor. You will have an appointment to attend a driver’s medical exam. They will ensure you are in good health to be given your provisional entitlement.

Completion of the HGV Theory Tests

Once your provisional entitlement is added, you can book your theory tests. This will consist of the multiple-choice and hazard perception tests.

Your theory test will be booked at a location near/convenient to you.

Your LGV Practical Test

Once you have completed your driver training, and if you feel ready and confident, you will complete your test. This will include 3A and 3B practical driving tests.

The 3A off-road exercise consists of completing an “s” shape manoeuvre. You will then show the examiner how the coupling and uncoupling procedure.

The 3B on-road exercise will go ahead once you have successfully completed the 3A test. You will move onto driving on the road, which consists of answering a number of “show me- tell me” questions.

You will also experience independent driving and following driving instructions.

Once you have completed all the training and examination requirements, you will find out whether you have passed or not.

Completing the D2 Form and Gaining Your Provisional Licence

Once you pass your medical examination, you need to complete the D2 provisional licence form. This will be sent to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) once it has been completed. This will need the information from your D4 medical.

The DVSA will then apply the category C+E entitlement to your licence, so you can then begin your training.

Beginning Your HGV Driver Training

Now you can begin your driver training! You will receive practical training from an experienced instructor. They will guide you and teach you the knowledge needed to be able to drive an articulated LGV.

You will be shown how to reverse, drive amongst other road users and perform a coupling/uncoupling procedure correctly.

Your CPC Requirements

If you are in need of driving for hire or reward, you will need to further complete 35 hours of driver certification of professional competence (Driver CPC). This is bookable with the option requirements (module 2 and module 4 CPC).
